My "Golden Compass" Review
#3- There is a quote from the "Bible" from Lord Asriel which is Genesis 3, retold in a way which it adds Adam and Eve's daemons into the text, and when they eat of the tree of good and evil they beheld their daemon's true form. (This is why adult daemon's are fixed in one shape)

When buying organic pays (and doesn't)
Know when it pays to buy organic food products to reduce your exposure to pesticides and other additives, when it might sometimes pay, and when it’s a waste of your money.
Use this section the next time you’re making a grocery list. (See our tips on getting organic food for less.)
Buy these items organic as often as possible
What:
Apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach, and strawberries.
Why:
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s own lab testing reveals that even after washing, some fruits and vegetables consistently carry much higher levels of pesticide residue than others. Based on an analysis of more than 100,000 U.S. government pesticide test results, researchers at the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a research and advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C., have developed the “dirty dozen” fruits and vegetables, above, that they say you should always buy organic if possible because their conventionally grown counterparts tend to be laden with pesticides. Among fruits, nectarines had the highest percentage testing positive for pesticide residue. Peaches and red raspberries had the most pesticides (nine) on a single sample. Among vegetables, celery and spinach most often carried pesticides, with spinach having the highest number (10) on a single sample.
(For more information on pesticide levels for other types of produce, go to www.foodnews.org .)
What you’ll pay:
About 50 percent more on average for organic produce, but prices vary based on the item and the time of year. A Consumer Reports price survey conducted in the New York City area in October 2005 found a premium of 24 percent on organic strawberries and 33 percent on grapes and spinach. Organic Idaho potatoes cost 101 percent more than conventional. When you buy organic produce in season at a farmer’s market or directly from local providers, however, you might avoid paying a premium at all.
What:
Meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy.
Why:
You greatly reduce the risk of exposure to the agent believed to cause mad cow disease and minimize exposure to other potential toxins in nonorganic feed. You also avoid the results of production methods that use daily supplemental hormones and antibiotics, which have been linked to increased antibacterial resistance in humans.
What you’ll pay:
Often double the price of nonorganic, though you might save money by buying direct from local farms. For instance, in December 2005 the Organic Trade Assocation reported that in Iowa, organic ground beef was available for $4.25 a pound and beef tenderloin for $16 a pound.
What:
Baby food.
Why:
Children’s developing bodies are especially vulnerable to toxins and they may be at risk of higher exposure. Baby food is often made up of condensed fruits or vegetables, potentially concentrating pesticide residues. Michelle Faist, a spokeswoman for Del Monte, says that even though its baby foods are not organic, pesticides and heavy metals are kept below government-recommended levels.
What you’ll pay:
Varies widely by store.

Promised House Pictures!
Our bathroom, waiting to be finished decorated.. Anna started a while ago, and it's really cute! I've been finishing little bits here and there. :) Fun!
Our baby gate at the top of the stairs.. I love it! Keeps Miss Mischief upstairs so we can keep an eye on her!
All in all, our house is great! We love it, and Josh is going to have fun this winter helping Dad trim out the house. Yes, after 10- years it never got done! Only some of the upstairs rooms have it.. I have been having fun finishing up the bathroom's decor, and just adding touches here and there. It's very fun!

Our New Look!
As you can see, our Blog had a facelift! I rather like it! Something new is always fun!
Well, for those of you who have asked, we are finally moved and settled in quite nicely now. Our family farm, Meadowview Farm, is soooo wonderful compared to the city and where we were at. We LOVE the wide open space, the peace and quiet, and especially being with my family. The adjustment has been so easy, and all of us have taken to living together again so well! I love getting up and having someone else in the house to talk to! Human contact again! :) You SAHM know what I mean! It's been so fun to have a HUGE kitchen to make things in, and more people to appreciate my cooking! (I can make more things more often now, as we have more people to eat them up!) Isaac and Dad love having us "dueling chefs" in the kitchen and vote on our meals each weeknight. ( I won most last week! haha) (We take turns cooking on different nights)
Plus, Josh has been LOVING the chance to just get out of bed, walk outside and go hunting! He has gotten 3 so far this season, and we're hoping for at least 2 more.. I sound so selfish,(lol) but we eat a LOT of venison! :) Josh is loving the visiting with the guys, too.
Anyways, I will post pictures soon! I just have to get the computer figured out again and do it! (New computer ya know, new ways to do things.) Hope you are all having a great week!
OH! Baby updates... I am now 15 weeks along, and showing already! It's so nice to be past the 1st trimester "yuck".. and into the 2nd trimester fun stage. The baby is healthy and well, I heard its heartbeat at our last checkup, and it was around 150. Nice middle of the road number.
Isn't pregnancy amazing? Having a new life inside you. Leah has been loving the new "baby", kissing my tummy and talking to it. "Hi Baby".. so cute! I think she does understand that there is a baby in there, but just has no idea what that really means! But what a sweetie she is!
Great week to all of you!

Potty training Leah... please weigh in!!!
She is only 19 months, and starting to take interest in Potties, and underwear.. ;) I wonder if the time is right. Plus in April/May we will have a new little one, and my time to have with Leah one on one will be limited. I'm not expecting her to be fully potty-trained by the time baby is born, I would just LOVE it if she was at least well on the way trained, maybe even day-time trained! But I'm not over-expectant.
One piece of advice I have read is no matter how early you start, each child will consequently finish whenever they are ready. Hence: you can start the race early or late, but your finish time never changes.
Here's a great readiness checklist on Potty training, for those in the same boat as me.. I found it helpful.. but I'm still trying to decide what to do.
http://www.babycenter.com/0_toilet-training-readiness-checklist_4384.bc
What do you all think?
1. Is it too early to start training? Or will it be beneficial for her?
2. What are your potty training stories and advice?
3. Did you use rewards/bribes? If so how did they work?

We're Moving! - Diary Entry Week 3
But maybe I lost some of you... let me back up. We are officially MOVING!
As of November 1st, we will be living out in the country!!! We're moving in with my parents for the winter, in their big blue "hotel" as they call it.. a 5BR 3BA Farmhouse.. which in the spring will be officially OURS, as we are purchasing it! My parents are building a smaller house next door.. (Their "retirement house" as they call it) so we will be homeowners.. and land-owners.. with 20 acres!!!!!! We are so very excited, and I especially can't wait to start hobby farming. (I need to post a blog just for my dreams of farming, gardening, and landscaping!)
My parents graciously asked us to move in with them this winter, which will almost triple our heating savings as opposed to staying in the house we are now. So, when spring comes, we will have a great down payment put away for our house payment! :) So great!
So, we're moving our whole entire household of stuff out to the country, and will be getting 3 bedrooms of the upstairs for us. (One for us, Leah, and a nice sitting room/living room area) So privacy won't be such a hard thing, but it will be an adjustment! Sharing kitchen space with my mom, storage space with my dad, and lots of other things. But we're all very excited and I think it will work out very nice. Another huge plus about moving is Leah LOVES it out on the farm.. so much she cries when we have to leave.
We also have gotten a 4 month old puppy!!! Another great reason to move out! His name is Teddy, and he is a purebred Golden from my parents' dogs. He was the runt of the litter, and never sold.. I have no idea why, he is the sweetest, most loveable dog! Leah and him have so much fun together, when he isn't over-licking her! (I'll post pictures of him soon)
So all in one month so much can happen! :) Moving has been an adventure... but not so much as the mice have been lately. Yuck... I hate mice! They are over-taking our entire house... and forcing me to be extra-cleanly while in the midst of moving... when my house is a disaster area!!! They come up on the counters and eat food I leave there... (Like one night my biscuits... which WERE covered!) Josh has been very diligent in trapping them.. in about 1 1/2 weeks we've gotten about 11! Isn't that just creepy???? So.. at least we leave that problem behind us. :)
All in all, moving is hard work. Our final move in weekend is next weekend, and then we will be out of our little house forever. It seems so sad to leave.. this was our first house together, and Leah's only memory of home. But what a great opportunity to live out in the country, in a HUGE house on a farm! :) We're excited! Plus with the new baby coming in May, we will need the extra room! :) and that is our life so far... will keep you updated and post pictures after our move! :)
