Amazing Quote!

I came across this quote in a Homeschool mailer.. what an wonderful statement in support of homeschooling! I agree with this 100%.. as I read it, I could't believe it was said by Laura Ingalls Wilder! It sounded like it would be by someone in today's time period! Amazing!

Leah's Quilt

This past week I finally finished Leah's quilt!! It turned out very pretty! Leah LOVES it and can't wait to use it on her new "big girl bed" Dad is building for her. (a Twin Bed) Very fun!

I finished it just in time for both girls to come down with the flu over the weekend. Yes it was a LONG weekend!!! Finally today they are 100% again, and I tackle cleaning germs after a weekend of sick kids. :) But I am so happy they are well!

Disney: Modest or No?

As I get ready to have Leah's 3rd Birthday Party, a "Princess" theme as it happens to be, I start to contemplate what decor to use. I wanted some cute Princess themed things and of course pink everywhere.

I picked up some Princess books for her at a good price, based on the best Disney stories.. but I see how some of the Princesses are immodestly dressed.

Ariel in The Little Mermaid for instance, is in a bikini top almost the entire movie. As for Jasmine in Aladdin, I have little more to add about that. Even some of Belle's dresses from Beauty and the Beast are a little low cut for me. (Some might think my view is too old-fashioned, but it is just that, MY view.) :)

Plus some of the traits these princesses display in the storylines (Rebellion, Defiance, Running Away, Seduction) in addition to skimpy dress might be too much for me to consider allowing them into my house, for fear that they may engrain themselves into my daughters minds.

Now don't get me wrong, I want my daughters to grow up being princesses! I think it is wonderful! I myself LOVED fairy tales growing up, I just want to make sure I am protecting their little minds from immodesty and feminism so prevalent in our culture.

So what do you think? I am curious as to what you do to protect your daughters from immodesty in the "Princess" area. Any good ideas? Good alternatives to Disney? How do you encourage godly Princesses in your house?

11 Months Old!!

Hard to believe my baby is 11 months old! (as of Wednesday)

Her stats:

20 lbs 11oz (with clothes on)

28 1/8 inches long

What a sweetie pie she is.. I am thankful for her every day!

Pretty soon Mom?

As I lay my back on the floor yesterday, giving Bekah ariplane rides, Leah played with her dollies next to me. Changing their diapers, dressing them up etc, and Bekah laughed and hollered next to her. All of a sudden she looked over at me, then at my tummy and said

"Mom.. baby in your tummy?

I said.. "No... No baby in my tummy."

She looks at me and says "Oh. Pretty soon, Mom?"

At this point I try very hard not to laugh. (or cry)

"Why?" I said "Do you want another baby?" Yes." she said

And that was the end of her request/discussion. :) Made me laugh soooo hard!

Finished!

As of Monday morning, Bekah's quilt is all done!!! It was all-in-all very easy and turned out soooo beautiful! The downside to it was it ended up costing much more than I had originally thought (around $55 total) as material was more than I planned. But it will be a fun memory/keepsake/ for Rebekah as well as just a bedspread. :) I am very happy with it!

I ended up using a cute patterned flannel sheet for the back of the quilt, as it was less expensive, less sewing and plus I love the cute "Princess" style.

Leah enjoys trying out the quilt first! (She can't wait for hers to be done) And with that, I begin to complete her quilt! My job is never done is it? (smile)

YUMMY!

I just made the most AMAZING Indian Curry last night for dinner! It was so good and smelled amazing in the house! I loved the mix of ethnic spice and flavor. Plus, Josh and Leah liked it! Great! What a fun way to experiment with making ethnic foods at home! I will definately make this again!

East Indian Curry

3 Chicken breasts (cut into bite size pieces)

2 tablespoons margarine
2 medium onions, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
4 bay leaves
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves

1 can of diced tomatoes with juice (14.5oz)
1 tablespoon salt
3 tablespoons curry powder
1 tablespoon paprika

Directions

1)Brown chicken in a non-stick skillet, using a little canola oil. Remove to paper towels and drain. Discard oil, retaining any browned bits of the chicken.
2)Heat the 2 TB margarine in the same skillet. Add onions and garlic and saute until browned.
3)Add bay leaves, cinnamon and cloves. Cook, covered, for 5 minutes.
4)Add remaining ingredients to skillet and stir frequently.
5Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the spicy sauce over it. Cover tightly and cook over medium heat until tender.

Serve over rice. ENJOY!

Halfway Done!

Here are some pics of Bekah's almost finished quilt!! I have the top quilt-part almost done, with the exception of my last border around the edge. Now I only have to sew the backing on, stuff and tie it! :)
