Wonderful Crepes

I have always admired people who have served crepes as breakfasts or desserts, never understanding how EASY they are to make! :) I made a basic crepe recipe here and filled with whipped cream and topped with strawberries and bananas. YUMMY! It was very good and so easy!

Basic Crepes

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted

1) In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and the eggs. Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Add the salt and butter; beat until smooth.

2) Heat a lightly buttered frying pan over medium high heat

3) Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto pan. Turn in a circular motion to cover entire bottom of pan with batter, moving fast as it will start cooking fast! Cook crepe about 2 minutes, or until brown, then flip and cook other side until brown. (It doesn't take long!)

Serve with powdered sugar, rolled up with filling, with syrup, jam, chocolate or eat them plain! Yum! Enjoy!

Proftable Weekend!

This weekend we begun to remodel our house starting with 2 smaller projects! (I am sooooo excited!) Josh has long-wanted to put tongue-in-groove on this part of the wall area. Between the abuse the wall/phone orgnaizer area has gotten by Dogs and the dirt/stains from 11 years it just wouldn't clean up nice at all.(Yes I tried) He wanted to do wood rather than paint (my idea) But he got some wood groove on a great deal from a friend, so we decided to go for it.

Before Picture

Close Up of our "Message Area"

Josh and My dad, tearing out part of the sheetrock. Orginally he was going to put it vertically, which meant he'd need to support it better . Hence the taking out of the sheetrock. :)

The half-way finished product!

Very pretty!
(More pics as the pr0ject continues!)

Then my project was to paint the main level bathroom a pretty sage green. It has been white forever and it needed some color to shine it up! Plus Josh is an amazing painter! :)

The finished product! Yay!
I love all these little changes we are slowly doing to the house, it makes it feel more like ours everyday! :)

Cleaning, Cleaning!

I think Cabin Fever has set in around here, and to try and combat it I have begun spring-cleaning! I really should have taken a "before" picture of my Laundry room, as it was stuffed full of junk (most of it was my parents!) and dirty walls, sinks, etc.. Basically I took all the junk out and scrubbed everything! I also used Lime-A-Way on the sink and WOW did it look brand new!! There is now room in my laundry room to actually do laundry! Hooray! :)

I also took time and cleaned my upstairs tub/shower rigorously to get the hard water/brown stains off my tub. It was soooo hard to get them off, eventually I did (I have a secret cleaning weapon!) and now they sparkle and shine and are PURE white! NO kidding! :) YAY!

Amazing Quote!

I came across this quote in a Homeschool mailer.. what an wonderful statement in support of homeschooling! I agree with this 100%.. as I read it, I could't believe it was said by Laura Ingalls Wilder! It sounded like it would be by someone in today's time period! Amazing!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I believe it would be much better for everyone if children were given their start in education at home. No one understands a child as well as his mother, and children are so different that they need individual training and study. A teacher with a room full of pupils cannot do this. At home, too, they are in their mother's care. She can keep them from learning immoral things from other children." ~Laura Ingalls Wilder
Leah's Quilt
This past week I finally finished Leah's quilt!! It turned out very pretty! Leah LOVES it and can't wait to use it on her new "big girl bed" Dad is building for her. (a Twin Bed) Very fun!
I finished it just in time for both girls to come down with the flu over the weekend. Yes it was a LONG weekend!!! Finally today they are 100% again, and I tackle cleaning germs after a weekend of sick kids. :) But I am so happy they are well!
Leah, with her quilt just after I finished tying it
Completed! Extra Long twin size.. about 66x96
Edging up close
I also used a flannel patterned sheet for the backing.. it is so cute!
Disney: Modest or No?
As I get ready to have Leah's 3rd Birthday Party, a "Princess" theme as it happens to be, I start to contemplate what decor to use. I wanted some cute Princess themed things and of course pink everywhere.
I picked up some Princess books for her at a good price, based on the best Disney stories.. but I see how some of the Princesses are immodestly dressed.
Ariel in The Little Mermaid for instance, is in a bikini top almost the entire movie. As for Jasmine in Aladdin, I have little more to add about that. Even some of Belle's dresses from Beauty and the Beast are a little low cut for me. (Some might think my view is too old-fashioned, but it is just that, MY view.) :)
Plus some of the traits these princesses display in the storylines (Rebellion, Defiance, Running Away, Seduction) in addition to skimpy dress might be too much for me to consider allowing them into my house, for fear that they may engrain themselves into my daughters minds.
Now don't get me wrong, I want my daughters to grow up being princesses! I think it is wonderful! I myself LOVED fairy tales growing up, I just want to make sure I am protecting their little minds from immodesty and feminism so prevalent in our culture.
So what do you think? I am curious as to what you do to protect your daughters from immodesty in the "Princess" area. Any good ideas? Good alternatives to Disney? How do you encourage godly Princesses in your house?
